SO YOU THINK THERE ARE ACCIDENTS IN YOUR LIFE? “I’d had a couple of tickets for a Jackson Browne concert in Providence for a couple of months. I ended up with an extra ticket; didn’t try to sell it, just figured it would be great to find someone to go with me, asked a couple of people around here in Boston during the week but, no takers. On Saturday I left my house at about 4:30p, all the way, thinking, ‘Who do I know in Providence?’ Suddenly it dawned on me that an OLD COLLEGE FRIEND, KAREN, used to live there. I’d seen her at an event about five years ago; before that, about 38 years ago. Trouble was, I had NO IDEA how to GET A HOLD of her. For the rest of the drive I searched my mind, emailed another friend who might know how to connect with Karen, but no luck. Parking near the Providence Performing Arts Center, shortly before 6p, I went in search of a place for a quick bite. A storefront with random things in the window attracted my attention. I went in, poked around, and on my way out asked a fellow for a nearby restaurant recommendation. He told me that Local 121 was kinda nice, so I headed there. It was a short walk, a beautiful night and I resumed my thoughts on HOW IN THE WORLD I could connect with Karen. I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant … homey and cozy; figured I’d have a burger. I heard a voice yell out: ‘BARRY!’ I turned. IT WAS KAREN! Flabbergasted, I told her the story. We both just COULDN’T BELIEVE what had happened! We caught up on things for a while, then had a great time at the Jackson Browne concert. Who knows, maybe we’ll bump into each other again ... five years from now. This I know ... it was one of the best ‘coincidences’ ever. Wow.” Barry Rosenthal ••• Let’s take a moment and compute the NUMBER OF WAYS that Barry’s encounter with Karen COULD HAVE BEEN derailed. He could have had another taker for the ticket. He could have passed the shop with the interesting front window. He could have avoided asking for a restaurant recommendation ... or ... been given another. Then, what are the odds that the very person he was seeking ... KAREN ... would be in THAT restaurant, in a spot where she could even see her old friend Barry, at that exact moment? This is called DIVINE ALIGNMENT! The process by which we are caused to be in the RIGHT PLACE at the RIGHT TIME for us to encounter someone we are supposed to meet. For what purpose? Barry and Karen will just have to let us know.
