SO today I had two girls come in after having their navels pierced - TopicsExpress

SO today I had two girls come in after having their navels pierced at the $20 piercing place here in town. The first thing I noticed, CBRs. For those of you that dont know what that is, it stands for Captive Bead Ring and is the ring with the single bead. This style of jewelry was prominently used in the early to mid 90s for Navel piercings. Just like most things body piercing has evolved and jewelry that is far better suited for navels has been around and readily available for at least 15 years. Not only is it better suited it also looks nicer. The shops that use these will argue that they CAN work. Yup and you can also cut your lawn with scissors, but it is certianly not the right way. Dont like that analogy? Try this. Doctors used to cure diseases with bloodletting and leaches. Arent you glad that they evolved and found a better way? Like I said, that was the first thing. The next thing I noticed was that pen ink hashmarks that were still visible. I asked the young lady if the piercer used a regular ink pen to mark her. Yep. Then I asked if he at least threw it away after. Nope. Same pen, both girls and back in the drawer. And since they were still visible after a day, I asked if he cleaned the area after piercing her. Nope. I hope its easy for you all to see why this is a bad idea. Shared pens + open skin = BAD THINGS THEN they both asked me what they needed to do to take care of them. Seems as though they were told to use Dial soap, 5-6 times a day and that there piercings would be healed in two weeks. This is physically IMPOSSIBLE! Your body cannot heal a puncture wound in this amount of time, let alone with jewelry in it. On top of that, antibacterial soap IS NOT meant to be used in an open wound. Read the info on the bottle. Bottom line, DO NOT get pierced by someone who does not give proper aftercare. What is my point in all of this, you ask? Before getting pierced, seek out a knowledgeable piercer. Ask questions. If you get different answers, ask for factual backup. BE AWARE OF A CHEAP PRICE! A reputable piercer will offer quality jewelry at the best price they can. But it CANT be $20. You cannot offer quality jewelry for that price. Period. Do your research. Do your body and health a favor and find a piercer who has a clue and can back it up with facts. If you dont know where to look, ask me.
