SOAPing with Refuge Church Proverbs 11 Todays proverb reminds me of a couple well known stories from the Christmas season. For the last couple years, Silver Dollar City has performed both of these dramatic stories on stage as plays. The first the story by Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol... as most all of you know, this is the story of an old rich & selfish man named Ebenezer Scrooge. Scrooge is well known for his rude attitude & disliked by most everyone in town. It takes a series of ghastly visits one night for Scrooge to realize his folly & to genuinely change. Within that play at SDC, there is a scene that is portraying the [future] death of Scrooge & the extreme joy this event has brought the townspeople... so much so that they even dance on his casket. The second story is Its a Wonderful Life. This is the story of George Bailey (played by Jimmy Stewart in the well known movie version). George is the man in town that is loved by most everyone due to his care for their needs. Unfortunately, he has hit a sudden & recent turn of events that has caused him to question whether he should have ever been born. George Bailey also has a visit (this time from his clumsy Guardian Angel named Clarence) intent on making sure George understands the difference hes made in his life. Near the end of the story, George is ecstatic to be alive & no longer worrying about his trouble when he returns home to find how the town has rallied around him to make sure he is taken care of. In both of these well known stories, we can see how the whole city cares for & celebrates the Godly person. We can also see the joy for when the wicked die. Seek to be one of those Godly upright citizens... your town needs you!! The whole city celebrates when the Godly succeed; they shout for joy when the wicked die. Upright citizens are good for a city and make it prosper, but the talk of the wicked tears it apart. (v11-12, TLB)
