SOAR has a special need IMMEDIATELY: Our little dog Turnip (seen in caption) needs a new foster home. He is our special little guy who we rescued in January, then again in May. (You can read the full story in a previous facebook post from months back.) Turnip has been in foster care for four months as he recovers from Histoplasmosis, collapsed trachea, and basically fought for his life after being traumatized by the life he lived on a chain. SOAR has monitored him closely as he continues to transition from a very sick pooch to a happy, sweet boy. He is still on meds to fight his Histo, but he continues to improve each month as he goes to the vet and has his numbers checked to see if he is free from the disease. He is almost there. When he was first diagnosed with Histoplasmosis his number was 18 and the machine only registers to 19! He was one sick puppy. At first he kept relapsing, as you know if you are a regular follower. Turnip didnt give up and neither did we. Now he is at 1.81 on the scale and he needs to be at .4 to come off the meds. SOAR is committed to Turnip and his medical needs. We got that covered. NOW, we need a COMMITTED FOSTER to see him the rest of the way to finding his forever home. This what Turnip needs: A (quiet) home with a fenced yard. He is still afraid of men and loud noises scare him and he will hide. Mind you, he lived ~ chained in the front yard of a trailer in a run down mobile home park where he was completely exposed to humans that could have been mean to him besides being terribly neglected by his owner who was a man. The weight of his heavy chain collapsed his trachea and he was barely fed or watered and he had heartworms. If you lived through all of that, would you trust the world? He will bolt if he is spooked, thats why a quiet home without a lot of in and out will be perfect for him. He loves women, other dogs, cats and enjoys basking in the sun and he likes affection. Turnip is not perfect and he may never come to a man or be the dog that one thinks he should be, but he is a fighter, a lover, and has a lot to offer a lady who may want a constant companion by their side. SOAR asks all of you out there to share this so we can find Turnip just the foster home that suits his needs. I know its out there!!
