SOCIAL Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini was left - TopicsExpress

SOCIAL Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini was left handing out presents alone in the heat on Thursday! She told a number of councillors and officials from her department to voetsek. Dlamini and the others were giving out gifts, including blankets, chocolates and toiletries to elders at an event organised by her department, Sassa, and the National Development Agency at Thulamahashe Stadium in Mpumalanga. The minister soon spotted councillors and Sassa officials handing out gifts to people other than the gogos on the list. Some councillors were even calling people to come to the stadium to get presents. Dlamini cut her speech short and said: “Bring those gifts back here. I’m angry with you! Why are you handing out gifts to your favourite people instead of the people they are meant for? You don’t respect these old people here!” After working alone for a while, Dlamini was joined by Busbuckridge Mayor Renias Khumalo and Social Development MEC Nomsa Mtsweni. Soon it emerged that the gogos were just as greedy as their councillors. They hid gifts under the tables and pretended they had not received anything to get more! An angry Dlamini said: “It seems I am being robbed by my beloved people now. Those who took more, bring back the extra gifts or I will shut down the programme!” Not a single gogo came forward and eventually the minister had to point those who had taken extra gifts out. Khumalo declined to speak to the SunTeam about the incident.
