SOMETHING ABOUT THAT APPLE Man choose to sin in the Garden of Eden. In the most perfect place... the most perfect life, this side of Heaven, man-kind choose to sin. Adam was not deceived into sin; he partook of the forbidden fruit out of love for Eve, believing Eve’s fate would be sealed if she stood alone before God in sin... gambling his life to keep Eve from becoming a human french-fry. Adam’s love for Eve was greater than his love for God. This is plain and simple idolatry: to value something or someone more than we value God. Eve coveted “to be like God” to have the knowledge of God, Self-rule rather than God-rule, likewise idolatry. Idolatry is an act of theft from God, stealing the honor due God as first in our lives... first in all things. But what of the other values of God: Fearing anything more than we fear God. Worrying rather than trusting God -- worry is a form of negative trust... trusting Self. Independence... Self-dependence, rather than dependence on God, and so on. Anytime we put something of ours before something of God’s idolatry is in the stew. We are commanded to “flee from idolatry”, putting it to death in our members, for “those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.” Idolatry caused the fall of man and continues to plague his relationship with a loving God who is supreme in all things and will not relinquish His preeminence to anyone or anything. Twenty-first century saints have many idols... Visit my Blog for other God thoughts: saltypeople.blogspot/
