SOMETHING DIFFERENT Galilee is the ten-year old daughter of one of our Pastors. She had to write a character sketch for her composition class. She chose me. I thought you might find it interesting and maybe even refreshing. Character Sketch: Bishop Joseph Garlington Bishop looks even taller on stage. With the patience of a lady bug, he walks up to the podium. His robe flowed like a river, his eyes were as brown as a bear coat, and he was as graceful as a swan. Always as he starts out the day like a clown with all the funny jokes he has! Once he is done, he starts us out in prayer. His prayer is like a tree growing with grace and beauty. After he prays he starts to say his scripture. When he preaches, it’s like he blooms like a flower because each Sunday he says something new about God and he keeps on blooming until you can see every color in the flower. He explains all he knows about God to the people who go to our church, and the people are filled with joy. During his sermon, he gets a little bit into the moment and starts to sweat. He grabs a tissue and wipes his brow, starts to preach again. He fills the room with joy like a gentle butterfly flying through the air gracefully. Well, it is really the Holy Spirit, but he uses Bishop’s words to touch us. When Bishop is done with his amazing sermon, he walks off stage while the whole church, as always, applauds to express their thanks. After service he always loves to talk to people. I think he treats kids as if they were the only thing that mattered to him, as well as all of the people that go to our church. He always has time to hang out with me. Each time I go by him he says, “You can’t go by me without giving me a hug!” He always makes me laugh each time I see him. Each birthday he always gives me a 20 dollar bill and wishes me a very happy birthday. He loves to give much more than take. Whenever you have a question about God, you can just come to Bishop! He will try his best to help you understand God more and more. Even when you need encouragement, you know who to go to.
