Jackson, Chicago, IL (map) Well be in the big room LOUP president Lynn Funkhouser will be the monthly guest at the Chicago Scuba Meetups February meeting. Join many joint CSM/LOUP members for this sure to be great presentation! Here are the details from CSM: The Philippines is Lynn’s favorite place to dive. She has spent 2 months per year, every year since 1975 & has dived 260 islands. In 2013 she spent three months capturing images. She will share photographs and experiences & how the photos were created from five different areas in the Philippines noted for great diving: 1. Puerto Galera, or Port of the Galleons, is one of the oldest Spanish settlements in the Philippines. 2. Anilao is a hotbed of evolution, known as “The Apex of the Coral Triangle.” 3. Tubbataha is the first UNESCO World Heritage Marine Park site. 4. Apo Island, near Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, is a model sanctuary to the world and was chosen by Shedd Aquarium as the model for their Wild Reef because it is so special. 5. Oslob where you are guaranteed to swim with whale sharks as the fishermen feed them. She will also discuss how she was able to capture some of these images for those who are interested in photography. Lynn Funkhouser was inducted into the inaugural Women Divers Hall of Fame (WDHOF). She is an internationally published photographer, author, lecturer, environmentalist, adventuress, and leader in dive travel. She specializes in underwater, nature, travel, and environmental images. In March, Beneath the Sea (BTS) will confer its Diver of the Year Award in Arts in recognition of Lynn’s outstanding service to the diving community. The Diver of the Year Medal of Excellence is conferred for major contributions in public service, safety, science, environment, the arts, or education. Past recipients have included Ralph White, James Cameron, Dan Orr, Scott Carpenter, Stan Waterman, and Jean-Michel Cousteau among others.
