SOUTH BEND – All are welcome and encouraged to attend, “Empowerment Saturday” this Saturday, October 5th from 10a.m. to 11a.m. at Emmanuel Urban Ministries (415 W. LaSalle in South Bend). In preparation for the gathering at Emmanuel Urban Ministries (E.U.M.) the Church’s leadership and members of Council have prepared the following agenda: • 10:00 E.U.M. Pastor Shirley Gaston will open with a prayer and blessing • 10:05 Mr. Joseph Shabazz will speak briefly about Emmanuel Urban Ministries, Empowerment Saturday and will introduce the City of South Bend leaders in attendance (Council as well as Administration). Finally, Mr. Shabazz will provide a brief overview of the progress made to date with Ordinance 10081-11, South Bend’s MBE/WBE Ordinance. • 10:15 Councilwoman Valerie Schey will review (in detail) ordinance as written • 10:25 Councilwoman Valerie Schey will present the following questions to the guests for public input: o The ordinance – what’s working? o The ordinance – what can we improve? o The Diversity Utilization Plan – what are strategic priorities for the plan? o The ordinance – are there amendments that need to be made to support the Diversity Utilization Plan? • 10:55 Pastor Gaston will provide the closing statements for Empowerment Saturday Thank you all for your commitment to the MBE/WBE ordinance and its goal of maximizing participation and opportunities in South Bend for Minority and Women owned businesses.
