SOUTHEAST QUEENSLAND --- SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING -- UPDATE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING - SOUTHEAST QUEENSLAND for DAMAGING WIND, HEAVY RAINFALL and LARGE HAILSTONES For people in parts of the LOCKYER VALLEY, DALBY, SOUTH BURNETT and TOOWOOMBA Council Areas. Issued at 6:44 pm Monday, 16 September 2013. The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 6:45 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Dalby. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east. They are forecast to affect Jondaryan and the Bunya Mountains by 7:15 pm and Toowoomba, Yarraman, Oakey and the area west of Kingaroy by 7:45 pm. Damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones are likely. Wind gusts to 80 km/hr were observed at Dalby at 6:40pm. Emergency Management Queensland advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
