SPIRIT OF PRAISE That is why he broke them with hard labor, they fell and no one was there to help them. Lord help! They cried in their trouble, and saved them from their distress. He led them from the darkness and deepest gloom; he snapped their chains. Let them praise the Lord for his great love, and for the wonderful things he has done for them. Psalm 107:12-15. For he broke down their prison gates of bronze; he cut apart their bars of iron. Some were fools they rebelled and suffered for their sins. They couldn’t stand the thought of food, and were knocking on deaths door. Lord help they cried in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent out his word and healed them, snatching them from the door of death. Psalm 107:16-20. WISDOM SPEAKS 6 The words of the wicked are like a murderous ambush, but the words of the godly save lives. 7 The wicked die and disappear, but the family of the godly stands firm. 8 A sensible person wins admiration, but a warped mind is despised. 9 Better to be an ordinary person with a servant than to be self-important but have no food. 10 The godly care for their animals, but the wicked are always cruel. Proverbs 12:6-10 PRAISE FOR FIRE Everyone was expecting the Messiah to come soon, and they were eager to know if John might be the Messiah. John answered their questions by saying; I baptize you with water, but someone is coming soon who is greater then I so much greater that I’m not worth to be his slave and untie his sandals. He will baptize with the Holy Spirit and with fire! Luke 3:15-16. John’s baptism with water was symbolic of the washing away of sins. Jesus baptism followed his message of repentance and reformation. Jesus’ baptism with fire equips us with the power to do his will. This fire by baptism also symbolizes the work of the Holy Spirit bringing the judgment of God on those who refuse to repent. When we are baptized in the Holy Spirit with fire we must turn from sin to avoid Gods punishment and to be able to experience Gods mercy and approval. When we are baptized with fire we are equipped with the power to do Gods will. When we repent and believe we become more valuable in serving him. God will judge with fire and those who choose not to repent.
