SPIRITUALLY•SPEAKING! Nigeria Is Falling Apart – Bishop Kukah CATHOLIC Bishop of the Sokoto Diocese, Right Reverend Hassan Matthew Kukah, has warned the political class to take proactive measures in addressing the lingering political crisis and insecurity bedeviling the country, as the country is falling apart. Speaking at Kizara Village after commiserating with the people of the village over the killing of 58 people during the week, he advised politicians to get their acts together. He attributed the lingering crisis to the failure of the political class to continuously engage in dialogue with one another, saying that politicians must imbibe the spirit of negotiations and concessions always. According to him, “they must also acquaint themselves with the fact that the constitution has bestowed on them the onus of managing ‘our natural resources, they should know that they ought to manage our human resources well.” He warned that unless measures were put in place to address these anomalies, the country would gradually fall apart. Kukah maintained that their presence in the village was intended to tell the government and the politicians that Nigerians, irrespective of their religious beliefs, believe in the unity of the country. “Kizara is a predominantly Muslim community, there is not a single Christian in the community but as Christians, we are in the spirit of solidarity, to strengthen our brothers faith in to ensure that they do not deviate from believing in God, because we all serve one God,” he said.
