SPOTLIGHT ON A SFAI FILMMAKER Now that I am serving my second year as the director of the SFAI (San Francisco Art Institute) film program I am going to start showcasing SFAI student filmmakers every Wednesday on my FB pages. I am proud of what they are doing. SFAI is not a cookie-cutter film school. Film students not only learn the basic skill sets (shooting, editing, sound, etc) but are encouraged to experiment, get themselves out of their comfort zones to develop their own personal style and voice. Being an interdisciplinary institution students also study other art forms which only enriches their filmmaking. Today I am spotlighting SFAI student filmmaker Anais Hinojosa. Shes a smart, articulate young lady, very tuned in and passionate about her creative process--in a take no prisoners kind of way. I dig that. I havent had the privilege of having her in one of my classes but I look forward to it in the future. I dont respond to films that have inserts of computer screens--way over done. However, Ms. Hinojosas use of the computer screen worked for me because my attention was really focused on the person using the computer even though we never see her. Her presence is more powerful than what is happening on the computer screen. This presence is then absorbed beautifully by her actress. This is a young ladys poem with a little maestro Agnes Varda going on. You cant go wrong with that. Take the journey with Ms. Hinojosas Take Care. Let us know your thoughts. https://vimeo/87437114
