#SRK has become father to a baby boy who has reportedly been named #AbRam. The following article was written by me about a month ago. #GustakhiMaaf Ho !! *************************************************** A news has been making the rounds that Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gauri Khan are keen on expanding the family. They have planned their third child through surrogacy just as Aamir Khan. Shah Rukh is already a proud father to two young children. But before going further with the article, just want to ask myself that am I free and proficient as a citizen of this largely populated country to express my repudiation about having large family? I think I am. Well, against my repudiation one may argue that it is prerogative of SRK as an individual. But till one thinks of any other logical reason for SRK’s decision, I prefer to take my stand to another level.Just ask yourself- in the India of 2013, if any common man, already being a father of two young children, decides to plan a third child, won’t he be called a cretin? It is senseless. India is second most populated country in the world after China, and soon may leave The People’s Republic behind. I am sure this will be the only top spot China shall be happy to lose to her Asian rival. To attain this, China has been flogging the horsewhip of 1 child policy to keep the rate of population under control. On the other hand, India has continued being democratic, generous and pragmatic in this context. Here more emphasis has been on spreading awareness and educating the populace. If we just excuse the Sanjay-Gandhism practised during the emergency, Indian government’s main focus has always been on making the people understand the importance of smaller families. “Here, strictness of any kind can’t be applied, especially keeping in mind the old experiences during emergency” (as accepted by Health Minister of Gulam Nabi Azad in 2012).Don’t forget the fact that this is a country where whatever film stars do, is widely followed and ends up being a trend. Fandom is such a phenomenon. If SRK wants to have one more child, why doesn’t he think upon preening life of any orphan, just like Angelina Jolie-Brad Pitt or even his own Main Hoon Na co-star Sushmita Sen. That will be a good, sensible and generous gesture. Generally, the marginalised, backward and illiterate domain of the country is blamed for increasing the rate of population. But what about people like Badshah Khan, who represents the educated, progressive and elite section of the masses? Should they not be subjected to brickbats for setting the wrong example? Can any logical and rational mind call it being sensible? I cannot be certain about the meanings that will be derived after this by his millions of fans.Glam, gloss and gossip sections of newspapers often report that Gauri Khan is quite a trendy WAG who does not mind competing with the likes of international celebs like Victoria Beckham, Cherie Blair and Samantha Cameron. Not forgetting the fact that all of them were in the news for the very same reason. But one thing must be made clear over here that Europe is facing an alarming and acute decline in the rate of population. There, governments are urging people to increase their families to keep the indigenous population intact. Tony Blair and David Cameron, becoming father at the post of prime minister, had got a positive response. Activists popularised it as a motivational act. The scene in the countries of south Asia is different. Here, Benazir Bhutto is still criticized for delivering all her three children at the post of the PM. She was rudely named ‘Permanent Pregnant Prime-minister’ that actually abbreviates to PPP that is the name of her party.People at the apex of the social system have a larger responsibility of setting up the rational examples. They have a wider reach and following, so ,their every action would be critically evaluated on various counts. Love and desire to enjoy the fatherhood is one thing but national interest is something that cannot be discounted. But still it won’t surprise me if the news of SRK becoming father trends on twitter, flashes as a Breaking News, grabs headline spots and attracts good wishes even from the most intellectual class of the society. P.S. All SRK would lose, is an offer to endorse the government policy related to population control. May you have a healthy baby, SRK : ) ***************************************************
