Every presidential candidate is expected to publicly declare his commitment to pursue the issue to its end. A candidate, who shows any indication of ambivalence or direct or indirect exculpation of the guilty parties, does not stand a ghost of a chance to win the hearts and mind of the Filipino voters. They stand to lose the people confidence – and their votes in 2016. The reason is simple: the pork barrel scam has evolved as the centrepiece of the anti-corruption drive of the government.
