STARTING AFRESH Srikanta Galuis film, starring a bunch of newcomers, focuses on corruption in society Kathakali Banerjee Not every day do you come across a film that boasts of an entirely new bunch of talents. But Srikanta Galuis debut vehicle,Ami Aaj Nasto Hoye Jai,does just that bring new faces to the limelight.Right from the director, actors to the composer, freshness finds a new expression with this film. We were selected from Tarar Khonje,2012 an audition held by the production house, said Srikanta, who bagged this movie after winning in the best short film category. The story is spun around a college gang and their struggle to cope with the demands in the society. The complications in their professional and personal lives make Mayuraksmi (Piyali) and her journalist friend,Ujan (Swaraj),fall prey to the situation and choose the wrong way of life. While Mayuraksmi decides to pose as a rape victim to save her family,Ujan,on the other hand, compromises with honesty and creates false reports to save his job.I have tried to focus on the corruption in society that often ruins young lives.I hope that the audience will be able to relate to the story, said Srikanta.Apart from the fresh faces, the film will also see veteran actors Anamika Saha and Mrinal Mukherjee in pivotal roles. The production house has decided to donate a part of the films profits to Chittaranjan Cancer Institute. The director informed that the decision was taken after a Tarar Khonje participant,Chanchal, died of cancer during the show.
