In our fast life and endless desires, we forget that we are just here for time being and just playing our role in this lifes drama. We start taking temporary things to our heart and that too very seriously & then We start hurting. At times knowingly and at times unknowingly .... On this universal day of forgiveness, May I appeal for a sense of forgiveness towards my acts of omissions and commissions during the year past by us. I seek and pray for a sense of forgiveness from all of you for any of my Words, Deeds or Actions that may have been caused advertently or inadvertently by me. Similarly, i seek forgiveness from all Living Beings for the same. Jainism teaches a way of life to move on with tolerance and a sense of humanity. Note: Samvatsari is the last day of Paryushana —the eight or ten day festival of Jains. It is the holiest day of the Jain calendar. Many Jains observe a complete fast on this day. The whole day is spent in prayers and contemplation. A yearly, elaborate penitential retreat called Samvatsari Pratikramana is performed on this day. After the Pratikramana Jains seek forgiveness from all the creatures of the world whom they may have harmed knowingly or unknowingly by uttering the phrase— Micchami Dukkadam or Khamau Sa”. As a matter of ritual, they personally greet their friends and relatives Micchami Dukkadam. No private quarrel or dispute may be carried beyond Samvatsari and letters and telephone calls are made to the outstation friends and relatives asking their forgiveness.
