STATEMENT BY OFFICIAL OPPOSITION LEADER TOM MULCAIR ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE AIR INDIA TRAGEDY Nearly thirty years ago, Air India Flight 182 exploded over the Atlantic Ocean ending the lives of 329 innocent people, including 280 Canadians. Two other people were killed in an earlier explosion at Narita airport, in Tokyo. On behalf of Canada’s New Democrats, I extend my most heartfelt sympathy to the victims’ families and loved ones, who are still feeling the devastating impact of this, the worst act of terrorism in Canadian history. I invite all Canadians to join with us as we reflect on this terrible tragedy, and to join with the families in support and solidarity as they continue to mourn their loss. Deux autres personnes ont aussi perdu la vie dans une explosion reliée à cet attentat, à l’aéroport Narita au Japon. Au nom de l’équipe du Nouveau Parti démocratique, je tiens à exprimer mes sincères condoléances aux familles des victimes et à leurs proches qui vivent tous les jours avec les conséquences de cet acte terroriste, le pire de l’histoire du Canada. En ce jour de deuil et de commémoration, j’invite tous les Canadiens à faire preuve de solidarité envers les familles. Nous nous engageons à faire tout ce que nous pouvons pour nous assurer que de tels actes de violence ne se produisent plus jamais. -30-
