STATISTICS SIERRA LEONE JOINS THE FIGHT AGAINST EBOLA As individuals and institutions continue to patronize government in the fight against the deadly ebola diseases, staff members of Statistics Sierra Leone have agreed to have five percent (5%) of their salary deducted and forwarded to the Ministry of Finance as their own contribution towards the fight. Contributions are also expected to come from temporary staff especially those working for the 2014 Population and Housing Census Project. It is now obvious that the ebola outbreak has had an adverse effect on the activities of the institution which had adequately prepared for what is arguably the biggest demographic exercise in the country - the fifth population census scheduled for 5th - 19th December 2014. Statistician General, Mohamed King Koroma hailed his staffs’ decision and said all hand must be on deck in the fight as the only option is death from ebola – disease kills its victims within days of infection. The total staff contribution is expected to be around Le20, 000,000 (Twenty Million Leones). This is in addition to money already spent in supporting local musicians and disseminating ebola information materials in the country. Source: Samuel Serry Jr.
