STATUS: AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION from the Manhattan Animal Care & Control in NYC (shelter info at bottom of post) Meet USHER!! ID# 0968845 Male 3 years old 48 lbs Abandoned in a park :( Video footage: youtu.be/TNZQlWvvAsc A volunteer writes: I first saw a handsome, well behaved dog being walked by another volunteer and knew that I wanted to meet this gentle dog. So, later in the day Usher and I met, and he was well worth waiting for. What a delight this boy is! Usher demonstrates lovely leash manners, walking nicely by my side. "Going" as soon as we were out the door indicates he is likely housetrained. He smiles that famous pittie smile and his eyes sparkle with warmth and intelligence. Wagging his tail at everyone we meet, both two legged and four legged, Usher shows good manners in his approach. He takes treats gently, posed for his photo session like a supermodel, and is simply an easy, quietly affectionate, lovely dog to spend time with. Usher joined us when he was found abandoned in a park, and his care was not optimal. He has a couple of callouses, and his coat is a bit dry. Nothing, however, takes away from his social sweet and caring personality. Usher may have some resource guarding tendencies so will be best in a home without young children. He is a sweetheart who will be absolutely stunning when provided with proper nutrition. He is waiting to find his new family, as he is ready to take care of and love you. Ask to meet him today! Formal behavior evaluation: "Experienced/no children” Usher was excited during some of the handling items with soft body language. He was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Usher ate faster, was stiff and very difficult to push out of the food bowl, but did not growl, snap or bite. He took the toy away but had soft body language. Usher showed some concerning behavior during toy rawhide test - stiffening and growling, but did not escalate to a snap or bite to the assess-a-hand. He was relaxed and soft in body while approaching a friendly dog. AVAILABLE FOR DIRECT ADOPTION at the Manhattan Animal Care & Control in NYC (326 E 110th Street, New York, NY 10029) (shelter website: nycacc.org/).
