STEMC is currently taking applications for a Safety Coordinator in our Corporate office in Brownsville TN. Position Summary: Develops and administers a comprehensive safety program, establishing and maintaining a safe work culture and a safe work environment while insuring and maintaining company-wide compliance with all safety and environmental regulation Essential Duties: Works with VP of Operations and VP of Human Resources to formulate and execute a comprehensive and effective company-wide safety program, establishing and maintaining a safe work environment. Provides consultation and recommendations to VP of Operations regarding safety program including recognition for exemplary safety performance and discipline for safety violations. Follows all safety rules and procedures; and monitors work of all employees to ensure they also follow all safety rules and procedures. Monitors losses, develops and administers loss control program to effectively mitigate losses and improve safety. Works with the VP of Human Resources in monitoring all workers’ comp claims for return to work and compliance to safety and legal standards. Administers annual safety bonus program as well as quarterly and monthly safety drawings and luncheons. Furnishes co-op facilities and employees with all necessary safety equipment, including personal protective equipment as well as advising employees on FR clothing and uniforms. Coordinates and administers all required equipment checking programs. Creates and chairs safety committee and conducts quarterly safety committee meetings. Coordinates monthly inspections of Fire Extinguishers, First Aid Kits and Blood Bourne Pathogen Kits. Promptly and thoroughly investigates all accidents and recommends action plans to avoid future accidents including suggesting disciplinary actions. Plans, schedules and coordinates Apprentice Line worker training such as climbing school, switching school, SELCAT Books, OJT sheets etc. Regularly monitors all Apprentices’ work practices to ensure adherence to safety rules and regulations, and to determine whether progress (knowledge and skills) is satisfactory for length of time in position. Immediately ceases any work activity deemed unsafe and counsels employee and supervisor regarding proper procedures. Informs VP of Operations of all such situations. Coordinates with the District Managers and the VP of Operations to perform Apprentice Lineman evaluations. Monitors and keeps track of employee CDL and DOT health card records. Leads and coordinates all safety meetings, including the distribution and administration of the APPA safety manual. Maintain, complete and post government and regulatory reports and documentation including OSHA form 300A. Administer and coordinate a Haz-Com program. Administer and coordinate an Employee Right to Know Program. Administer and coordinate the environmental programs related to hazardous wastes and community right to know programs. Complete and submit and post state and national environmental reports as applicable. Maintain update and coordinate STEMC’s spill prevention, Control and Counter Measure Plan, including necessary employee training. Administer and coordinate the disposal of transformers, obsolete equipment, and other possible hazardous waste. Administer and coordinate the continuing development and updating of the Emergency Action Plan, including employee training as needed. Makes recommendations regarding process improvements to VP of Operations.Complies with STEMC’s policies prohibiting harassment and discrimination and immediately reports possible violations to VP of Operations and/or to VP of Human Resources. Complies with STEMC’s Drug-Free Workplace policy and immediately reports possible violations to VP of Operations and/or to VP of Human Resources. Complies with all other policies and safety rules and immediately reports possible violations to division VP of Operations and/or VP of Human Resources. Maintains general knowledge of compliance and regulations related to OSHA, EPA, NESC, APPA Safety Manual, and DOT CDL licensing. Performs other duties as assigned. Equipment Requirements (must be able to effectively use): Cooperative vehicle, personal computer, laptop, I-Pad, printer, copy machine, audiovisual equipment, facsimile machine, telephone, and 10-key calculato Software Requirements (must be able to effectively use): General Accounting, e-mail, word-processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software Education Degrees, Certificates, Licenses, and/or Training: Required: High School Diploma or equivalent Completion of recognized apprentice lineworker training program Completion of course(s) related to electric utility safety Valid CPR/First-Aid Certificate Completion of CPR Instructor Course Valid AED training certification Valid Tennessee Class A Commercial driver’s license (to be obtained within 6 months) Preferred: Industry-specific safety certifications Four year degree in a related concentration Five Years’ experience at the Journeyman level Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Five years Lineworker and/or safety coordination experience in the electric utility industry Preferred: Knowledge of and ability to teach and administer CPR/First-Aid Physical Requirements (must be able to): Extend neck to look above, down and side to side; use both hands and fingers; sit/stand for long periods of time; walk long distances and on uneven terrain; maintain arm-hand steadiness; lift and carry weights of up to 50 pounds for 20 feet; and push and pull weights up to 100 pounds Applications can be downloaded from our website and mailed to P.O.
