STILL SEARCHING FOR OZARKS HILLBILLIES I enjoy collecting old - TopicsExpress

STILL SEARCHING FOR OZARKS HILLBILLIES I enjoy collecting old records and old photo sheet music; but I also look for old tourist trap Ozarks things from the 1960s and before. And if there is an Ozarks hillbilly connected to it, it is that much better! Today I bought these 2 Ozarks hillbillies pieces (on left) at a local flea market. One is Ma and one is Pa. And Pa is especially great because it says right on it: National Metro Convention Branson Mo. 1957. Of course I do not know what the National Metro Convention was!! Maybe you do. This was before there was a Table Rock Lake and dam, etc, but Branson was already a great place for fishing and floating on Taneycomo and White River. another big QUESTIONS--------I have a number of these Ma and Pa ceramics in different sizes and styles. Does anyone know when those figures began to be used to represent hillbillies?? I can find no research on these figures. Did anyone take credit for their creation? Also shown: another of Paul Webbs cartoons for General Wesco of Joplin and Springfield (1950). The cover of the 1955 Eureka Springs Ozark Folk Fest. program. And the cover of a very early 1950s Frisco railroad promotional paper booklet cheerleading for the Ozarks. Notice on that pamphlet there is NO hint of hillbillies. The Frisco always emphasized the maturity and progressive ways of the Ozarks folks!
