STOCKPORT HERITAGE OPEN DAYS SATURDAY SEPT 14TH 2013 HISTORIC QUARTER EXPERIENCE An exciting self guided trail around Stockport’s fascinating Historic Quarter with a selection of heritage venues interspersed with retailers with special attractions on the day. Organised by Stockport Heritage Trust with support of the Historic Quarter Forum and Stockport MBC Town Centre Management Team The trail follows public thoroughfares but as always take care crossing roads and watch out for slips and trips. HERITAGE VENUES Open 10 to 4:00pm unless otherwise stated 1, Staircase House – Market Place Free entry. Prepare to be amazed Open 10 to 5:00pm Last admission 4:00pm 2, St. Mary’s Church and Heritage Centre Free guided tours of the church every hour on the half hour between 10:30 and 3:30pm 3, Robinson’s Brewery – Apsley Street Free beer samples at the new visitor centre and see the stables. Open 10:30 to 6:00pm 4, Stockport dungeon – Mealhouse Brow Free entry. Crime and punishment display 5, Winter’s clock – Little Underbank A chance to see the clock that powers the famous automatons Open 11:30 to 3:00pm 6, St Joseph’s Church – Tatton Street A free guide will show visitors round this hidden gem of a church. 12:30 to 4:00pm 7, St Peter’s Church – AD 1768 Call in and enjoy the church organ recital. Performance between 10 and 1:00pm 8, NatWest Bank. – Great Underbank Guided tour at 1:30, 2:00 and 2:30pm to see the magnificent fireplaces at the bank 9, Produce Hall Undercroft Experience the rarely seen ,prison like, undercoft. Open from 10 to 1:00pm 10, Market Hall at the inside meeting point History of the building by guide in the Hall between 10 to 12:00 and 2 to 4:00pm HERITAGE RETAILERS A, Charlie’s Cheese – Market Hall Free samples of local cheeses B, High Peak Beer Co – Market Hall Free samples of Victorian cordials C, Oak Tree café in the Market Hall The Victorian poor man’s meal, rag pudding can be bought with a free rhubarb and custard D, Room at the Top – Produce Hall Vintage books, clothing and housewares. Free history exhibition. E, Isis – Mealhouse Brow Free Victorian tea leaf reading F, Fab Music Store – Little Underbank 60’s music all day and exhibition G, Simply Celebration – Little Underbank Guess the weight and win the heritage cake made specially for the day H, Rhode Island Coffee Shop – L Underbank Enjoy a coffee and listen to heritage music. Also a free raffle on the day J, Mr Simms Sweetshop – Bridge Street Free ‘guess the number of gobstoppers’ and a chance of winning a prize K, Lord of the Pies – St Petersgate Pie making demonstration using their special 150 year old pie press. Between 10 to 12:00 L, Three Shires – Chestergate Just like 1900 and for ladies only, buy a glass of sherry, get a free cake. 3 till 5:00pm
