STOLEN MOTOR VEHICLES – TAMWORTH About 4:50am Saturday the 15th of June 2013 Police from Tamworth attended a vacant block of land on Kenny Drive in West Tamworth in relation to a vehicle on fire at that location. The vehicle was extinguished by NSW Fire Brigade Officers and enquiries later revealed that the BMW X5 had apparently been stolen from the corner of Duri and Hillvue Road, where it was parked and advertised for sale by the owner. The owner of the vehicle further advised police the spare key to the ignition had been left in the glove box of the vehicle at the time. About 11:30pm on Saturday the 15th of June 2013 whilst patrolling in relation to reports of a suspicious vehicle in the area, Police have located a 2008 Kia Rio sedan apparently abandoned in Anthony Road at South Tamworth. The condition of the vehicle suggested it had been used to perform a number of Burnouts, which was supported by other evidence present on the roadway and in a nearby park. Police have made enquiries with the owner of the vehicle who advised he had parked the vehicle in his driveway on Fitzroy Street at East Tamworth around 7:00pm that evening. It is understood that the vehicle had been left unlocked in the driveway with the keys in the ignition. Police would take the opportunity to stress the need for vehicle owners to be security conscious as the best locks and anti-theft devices on modern vehicles will only be effective if they are utilised…and if the crooks don’t have a key.
