STOP THE HATE It is no surprise that discordant voices are emerging after the Delta State PDP Governorship Primaries. What is however surprising, is the invalidity of the argument and ferocity of lies making the rounds on social media chiefly forwarded by some weirdos and tribal chauvinist claiming to speak for the entirety of the Urhobo ethnic group. Firstly, in civilized climes, the content and consistency of the character of any candidate takes preeminence over his place of origin as alluded to by the majority of delegates from across all ethnic groups, who voted in accordance with the will of the people- Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, rather than the whims of a few as posited by these ethnic sentimentalist. Thus, this is outright victory for democracy and is something to cherish. Secondly, the ruination these set of people seek to cause among peace loving ethnic groups in Delta state by their direct attack on personalities most notably High Chief Tompolo is amazingly alarming. They have alleged that Chief Tompolo is using his ‘influence’ to ensure that power shifts to Delta North. This begs the question, has High Chief Tompolo suddenly grown over Four hundred fingers to thumb-print for Okowa’s candidacy during the last PDP primaries in Delta state? If he ever voted, he had just one vote, so from where did the other votes come from that ensured Okowa’s emergence? Certainly from true democrats who believe that governorship is not a preserve prerogative of a particular ethnic group rather it belongs to anyone who has the wherewithal to pilot the affairs of the state- Senator Okowa does. Again, is Tompolo an Agbor/Ika man or is Okowa now an Ijaw man or does Tompolo have absolute control over the will of the good people of the Isoko nation, Itshekiri democrats or those that supported Okowa’s candidacy from the Urhobo kingdom including the Ijaw diplomats? If he does, then he must be some deity who deserves to be worshipped for his insistence on power rotation as hitherto agreed by the elders of the state some years ago. Indeed Nigerians will like to know him. Thirdly, they have asserted also that Chief Tompolo and his cronies have hijacked all the positions meant for Delta South. This again is infantile and laughable. It is baffling how these Urhobo propagandists are trying to be more catholic than the Pope as this strictly is an issue for the other two ethnic groups (Isoko and Itshekiri) to deal with. As for the paid Isoko writers, it is boisterously worrisome how soon they have forgotten that when an Urhobo man (Delta Central) was Governor, an Isoko man was the Speaker of the house in the person of late Hon Ibrude (a position meant for Delta South). Currently, an Itshekiri (Delta South) is the governor and an Isoko man (Hon Macaulay) though the position is strictly by appointment, is the Secretary to the State Government.Clearly, these vituperations of theirs are full of fraud and lack the necessary ingredients to make a local government news let alone national headlines. This therefore is a clarion call on all well-meaning Deltans to shun sentimental affiliations and put the overall interest of all into considerations even as we cast our votes for Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for assured progress and stability come February, 2015
