STUDENT OPAL CARD NEWS It looks like at this stage you CANNOT purchase an anonymous Student Opal Card at any retailer, you can only obtain a monitored card which will be distrusted by your participating territory institution... which can also be cancelled as soon as you un-enroll (so it seems no more signing up for a course for a couple of weeks to access a concession card, soz Hugh). Having a monitored card means your entire travel can be accessed without a warrant by authorities. Sydney University (as well as others) have not signed up yet to Opal because of this privacy issue) Student cards will be available only to those participating territory institutions in February.
