SUBMISSIONS on the proposed changes to the Racial Discrimination - TopicsExpress

SUBMISSIONS on the proposed changes to the Racial Discrimination Act (RDA) close today. The draft amendments released last month by Federal Attorney-General George Brandis have been widely condemned, including by members of the Abbott Government. National Congress of Australia’s First Peoples co-chair Kirstie Parker told the ABC that the laws should remain as they stand because the proposed changes dont provide proper protection from racism. It talks about physical harm and fails to recognise the emotional, psychological and social harm done by racism has a very real and adverse effect on particularly the way Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples can participate in society,” she said. We think it basically provides licence to racists. Submissions can be made until April 30 at [email protected]
