SUMMER 2013 FARM TOURS Hosted by the New Fairfield Community Garden Committee June 29th at 1:00 PM- The Hickories- 136 Lounsbury Road, Ridgefield CT 06877-$5 MEET TIME: 12:15 PM -We will tour their various fields where they grow several crop varieties, learn about their mobile green houses and solar panels, learn about their animals, visit their composting site, we may pick blueberries and visit their farm stand July 20th at 1:00 PM- Sullivan Farm in New Milford- $5 MEET TIME: 12:15 PM -We will tour their farm and learn about all of their different organic techniques for fertilizers and pest control, how to preserve produce and harvesting techniques, visit their high tunnels and more. There is an Integrated Pest Management Workshop to follow for those interested at $5. August 3rd at 10:30 PM- Vassar Farm and Ecological Preserve - 124 Raymond Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12604 MEET TIME: 9:15 AM The Vassar Farm and Ecological preserve is comprised of 527 acres dedicated to organic farming, research and community gardening. We will tour their farm and their community gardens as well, learn about the diverse habitats on the land and also about the various programs run through the farm. ALL PARTICIPANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO CAR POOL. WE WILL MEET AT THE BACK END OF THE STOP & SHOP PARKING LOT WHERE DIRECTIONS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED AND CAR POOL ARANGEMENTS WORKED OUT. BOTTLES OF WATER WILL BE PROVIDED (DON’T FORGET TO RECYLE!)
