SUMMER GIGS AT FROST VALLEY FARM CAMP: GARDEN MANAGER, PROGRAM DIRECTOR, LIVESTOCK MANAGER, CAMP COUNSELORS, AND ACTIVITY SPECIALISTS! Excellent opportunities for anyone interested in sustainable ag, outdoor/environmental ed, gardening, etc!! It is a really great way to jumpstart careers in ES as well as a really beautiful and cool place to be. Description as follows: Multiple positions available for the summer 2015 season. The Farm Camp at the Frost Valley YMCA provides a coed residential camp for 56 campers every two weeks with kids ranging in age from 7 up to 16 years old and connects them to food, farming, and a traditional camp experience rooted in our values. Campers help work in the garden and in our barn (sheep, goats, alpacas, chickens, turkeys, ducks, steers, one llama named Batman, and some ornery barn cats) and learn about the big picture off food, where it comes from, and the role that they take as consumers. Past staff have taken their experience at the Farm Camp as a chance to blend a passion for working with youth and food/ farming/ agricultural. Staff have moved onto community garden managers, farm managers, Food Corps participants, AmeriCorps volunteers, permaculture practicioners, chefs, educators, or livestock managers and educators. We are driven by the passions individual staff bring to the table. Positions available include activity specialists, camp counselors, garden manager, and livestock manager. The agricultural aspects of our program help to reinforce the values that are at our core. At the farm, campers are expected to contribute and participate to the farm and their peers by role modelling positive behavior and an active role. Our program changes every year based on the interests of the staff and they drive what we do.every day.
