*****SUMMER HEAT ACTION ALERT - IT IS NOW 91 DEGREES - CARRIAGE HORSES CANNOT BE WORKED WHEN IT IS 90 DEGREES OR ABOVE. CONTACT THE ASPCA (212) 876-7700, ext. 4450***** At 12:45 pm today, Sunday, July 7, 2013, the temperature in NYC reached 91 degrees. During these hot times, the carriage horses are literally baking in the sun, with no shade and limited access to water. The law requires that the horses be returned to their stables at 90 degrees or above. The ASPCA is supposed to monitor the carriage horses and ensure that the industry is following the city regulations. Please contact them every day to ask if the horses have been returned to their stables and to ask them to enforce the law. Their phone number is (212) 876-7700, ext. 4450. Please call them every day and also ask them what they are doing to ban the carriage horse industry in NYC and remind them they need to be out there every day to monitor the horses and the drivers. The horses cannot complain to the ASPCA. Be their voice, make that call NOW. Please SHARE far and wide. (note: picture used on this alert was from last July).
