SUN SHINES FOR SOLAR FARM VISIT I was pleased to take up an opportunity to visit and be shown around the new Solar Farm, located off Tavells Lane, Marchwood. The Solar Farm is operated by a company called Lightsource Renewable Energy Limited. We were shown around by Esther Garcia, the Asset Manager, normally based in London. I was surprised by the fact that there are some 25,000 large panels on site, in a fixed position, generating some 6.3 megawatts of electricity. I learnt that the UK is actually a good country to place solar farms, partly because we get a lot of daylight hours, with good energy generating performance and also the way the market here operates, whereby the company gets a guaranteed return for their investment. The power generated here goes into the national grid. At present there are no sheep or hens on site, but it would be possible to do so once the land had been properly prepared. The company are keen to manage it for biodiversity and indeed I did see quite a wide variety of wild flowers growing on site.
