SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT THE FESTIVAL - AUGUST 18 - Kathy Stewart & The Frequent Flyers - Joe Richardson - Pauline Alexander Sunday afternoon sees our ‘Live & Local Main Stage’ concert at the Memorial Hall. This complements the ‘Live & Local Fringe’ venue which runs all weekend at the Vale Club, offering free entry and a continuous programme of (mainly) Borders musicians. Headlining is KATHY STEWART & THE FREQUENT FLYERS. Now living near Innerleithen, Kathy is originally from New York and has been delighting audiences on this side of the Atlantic with her thought-provoking and exciting style of Country-based music for many years. Her song writing draws on many influences of American popular culture and other spectrums, resulting in her own distinctive sound. She has been sought after for her composing and arranging abilities and is well known for her harmony work on recordings by established artists such as Andy M. Stewart, Silly Wizard, Dick Gaughan, Davy Steele, The John Wright Band, and British Country artists, John Hinshelwood and John Miller. The Frequent Flyers combines the talents of Kathy on vocals and guitar, Ken Kennedy on double bass, harmonica and vocals, and lead guitarist, “Big” Al Rae. JOE RICHARDSON is a highly regarded local singer and musician – “he plays tunes and sings songs from the heart, from Broadside Ballads to Bob Marley”. Every year the festival gets literally dozens of submissions from up and coming artists from outwith the area – we wish they could all get a stage, but it just isn’t possible. But we decided we’d set aside one slot at the Sunday afternoon concert and pick one of the best for the Innerleithen audience – PAULINE ALEXANDER. We know you’re going to love her singing! “Pauline’s pure and angelic vocals take centre stage with Edwin Gallacher’s complex finger picking style guitar. Their sets are a seamless mix of folk, interpretation of song and original material to delight the ear. Vocally she has been said to have echoes of Sandy Denny, Eva Cassidy or Karen Carpenter, and her music has been widely played on radio including BBC Scotland, Wales, Ulster and Shropshire.” The concert starts at 2pm and tickets are at the door - £6 (children under 16 FREE). The bar will be open throughout.
