SUNDAY MORNING REFLECTIONS: “I AM” Exodus 3: 13-14 (part 1) “And Moses said unto the God, behold, when I am come unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say unto me, what is His name? What shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and He said, thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.” In the gospel of John the Holy Spirit identifies Jesus Christ seven times as the eternal, “I AM” of all things. The use of Jesus “I AM” statements are an expression of His Deity as very God. God used that description of Himself in telling Moses how to address the children of Israel, and by whose authority he had come unto them for their deliverance. ”I AM” is God’s name, and Jesus Christ used it of Himself making Himself equal with God. All seven of these “I AM” statement of truth reveal something of the Lords eternal work of redemption for us. All seven declarations of truth can be identified with the things of natural life, but Jesus uses natural things to convey spiritual truth. As Dr. Ironside used to say, “He puts the cookies on the bottom shelf so the kiddies can reach them.” With the outline I have tried to capture the essence of each “I AM” statement made by Jesus to His hearer. I pray you will hear Him through His declarations of Himself. Here is what He said. 1-“I AM, The BREAD of Life” .. to .. REGENERATE .. John 6:35 All of us need physical bread to live, to keep our bodies from dying of starvation. We can live without many things, but without bread we cannot live. Jesus is saying He is the sustenance of life, spiritual life, the bread to feed the hungry dying soul, so that whosoever shall eat of Him shall not die, that is allows Him to regenerate the heart to life in Him through faith. Jesus is the Bread of life and He will sustain us for the eternities to come. “O taste and see that the Lord is good.” Psalms 38:4 2-“I AM, the LIGHT of the World” .. to .. REVEAL .. John 8:12 You certainly understand enough about light when entering a dark room to turn on the light at the switch. Jesus is saying to us I am the switch that turns on the light in your heart and soul. He is the one who reveals the love of God to your minds, and illuminates the will of God for your life. What is His will? “The Lord is not slack concerning His promises, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, NOT WILLING THAT ANY SHOULD PERISH, but that all should come to repentance.” (II Peter 3: 9) Let the light of God’s love draw you into His arms of salvation, and come to the Lord in repentance. Get to the Light which is Christ and let Him reveal His salvation to your heart! 3-“I AM, the DOOR” .. for .. RECEIVING .. John 10:9 Through the Lord Jesus Christ who said He is the door, by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved. You can go in and out and find green pasture for your soul. He goes on to say you can have life and have it more abundantly through Him. (verse 10) Jesus is talking about being the door of the sheepfold where the sheep are corralled for safety through the night. The Shepherd became the door of the coral, receiving the sheep, and lying in the doors entrance to protect the sheep. He is the one who leads them in and out to green pasture. Let me point out if a wild animal tried to get to the sheep it would have to cross over the shepherd first. Why not let Jesus be the door of your hearts coral and abide in His safety! Amen? Amen!
