SURE-P TO EMPOWER 50 000 STUDENTS The Subsidy Re-investment - TopicsExpress

SURE-P TO EMPOWER 50 000 STUDENTS The Subsidy Re-investment Programme (SURE-P) is expected to engage 50,000 graduates across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory in its first phase. Project Director, Graduate Internship Scheme of SURE-P, Mr. Peter Papka, who disclosed this at the weekend at a one day sensitization workshop organized for stakeholders and firms in Kogi State, said only 2000 firms have so far registered for the scheme nationwide. He said in Kogi State, only ten organizations have registered with the scheme and that none of them has been approved to take interns. “It is worrisome that despite the concerted efforts the Federal Government has been putting in place to address the issues of youth unemploymentin the country, companies and unemployed graduates have refused to key into the SURE-P programme”, he said. He said the workshop was aimed as sensitizing people on the need to avail themselves of the benefits of the scheme. The project director said during the one year internship programme, graduates are expected to acquire professional skills, training and work experience that would improve their job-placement opportunities.
