SURPRISE DISCOVERY IN FAIR GROVE FLEA MARKET Today I stopped at AA Flea Market about 3 miles north of Fair Grove on an outer road just east of HI 65. Owner Cathy is always very nice and helpful. In one both I found the 4 photographs you see at this post. They were priced for $3 each and I bought the 4. I asked Cathy if she knew where the nice photos came from. She said she and her husband bought them in a storage building sale. That likely means at some point someone did not claim the contents of the storage. Folks these are Sparta, Missouri citizens. The first couple on the left or top is Doctor Hugh Wise who was murdered in the Sparta Drug Store in 1939. With him is his wife Ethel Butler Wise. I did get a copy of this picture from a grandson in New York State in time for my Sparta book, but here in a local flea market is THE ORIGINAL!---the couple were not identified. The couple with the child is Doctor Ross Wise and his wife Dona Jenkins (1897-1977) and their son Robert Hugh Wise. Ross was a brother of Hugh---and yes both were doctors. Ross practiced for a time at Branson. The young couple that are separated by the middle of their photo are not identified, but I suspect they are Wises also. And the older couple on the far right (or bottom) are the long-time chief officer and cashier of the Citizens Bank of Sparta Harvey Jenkins and his wife Grace Lee in 1962. If any of the Jenkins or Wise family know the unidentified couple I would appreciate the information. I am glad I rescued these fine old photos-----someday they will go to the Christian County Museum or the Christian County Library.
