SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH 6 BURGLARIES St. Landry Parish detectives have arrested two men in connection with a string of thefts and burglaries that took place on the night of Nov 4 2014 in the Babineaux Rd. area of Church Point. The crime spree that night included 7 different victims. Deron M. Joseph, DOB 8-9-92, of Opelousas, was arrested on Nov 20 2014 and is currently being held on a $94,000.00 dollar bond. His charges are: - (9) counts of Simple Burglary (Felony) - (2) counts of Theft of Items - Theft of an ATV (Felony) - Theft of a Firearm (Felony) - False Swearing for Purpose of Violating Public Health or Safety (Felony) - Theft of Checks After thorough investigation by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Division (C.I.D.), Eddie Lee McClain, DOB 4-20-91, was arrested on Dec 9 2014. McClain is being held without bond on charges of: - (9) counts of Simple Burglary (Felony) - (2) counts of Theft of Items - Theft of an ATV (Felony) - Theft of a Firearm (Felony) - Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of Certain Felonies - False Swearing for Purpose of Violating Public Health or Safety (Felony) - Theft of Checks Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz stated “These men made some very bad decisions that night in November, one of which was committing these crimes in St. Landry Parish. Detective James Bergeron, who was assigned to investigate this series of burglaries, interviewed dozens of people and invested countless hours as he gathered facts and assembled probable cause for these two arrests. 31 charges against two men, involving 7 victims at 6 different crime scenes… cases rarely get more complicated than that. The crime spree of Deron Joseph and Eddie McClain lasted a few hours. The investigation lasted 35 days.
