Sabbath Message for July 27 from Dr. Hughon W. James, President of St. Kitts District 1 Elders’ Council: Dear Christian believers and friends, the power of choice is a precious, divinely bestowed gift shared by all human beings for our personal benefit and the common good. It is something to be treasured and securely guarded, for without it we would have no personal identity, no human worth or dignity. God has ordained that we properly utilize this inherent prerogative. However, while we were born with the basic desire and potential to assert our individuality, unless we are progressively nurtured and trained to exercise our free will, we would constantly find ourselves in conflict with others who are seeking to exert theirs also. Most importantly, in matters of spirituality and salvation, God wants us to make the best choices. He admonishes us: “choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve” (Josh. 24:15). He directs us saying: “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you, life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live” (Deut. 30:19). Jesus invites us to come and find rest in Him (Matt. 11:28-30). One of these days, every work will be brought “into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil” (Eccl. 12:14) and God will issue His just rewards (Rev. 22:12). When Christ returns He will be looking for those who have consistently allowed their lives to be guided and influenced by His example of loveliness, purity and excellence.
