Sabha reiterates plea on Bodo medium Kokrajhar, Nov. 28:The Bodo Sahitya Sabha today reiterated its plea to the Assam government to solve the problems of Bodo-medium institutions. The Sabha has repeatedly urged the government to create a separate directorate for Bodo-medium institutions, provincialise them, appoint teachers and distribute textbooks timely. Sabha president Kameswar Brahma told reporters here that the state government’s attitude towards Bodo-medium was step-motherly. As a result, “till today the medium’s problems have not been solved, nor does the government care to find a solution”. This inconveniences students, teachers and guardians, he added. He said the setting up of a separate directorate was the only way through which the problems of Bodo-medium institutions could be solved. The Sabha’s general secretary, Kamalakanta Muchahary, said the government had failed to properly implement the Right to Education Act, 2009. Many schools still do not have adequate teachers, classrooms or infrastructure. The Sabha also expressed serious concern over the law and order situation in the state. “The chief minister, who holds the home portfolio, has failed to maintain law and order in the state. Not a single day passes without extortion, killing, rape or some other form of violence taking place,” Brahma said, adding that it was doubtful whether there was a government in the state. The Sabha leaders also appealed to the Songbijit faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) to shun anti-social activities, join the peace process and help to build a peaceful society.
