Sad news to share from a friend... (Helen Carlson, please share with dad) Sad sad news Dear Friends and Colleagues, It deeply saddens me to inform you that our dear friend, Nick Contorno, died this morning (February 2) at 9:50 am MST, in the ICU at Havasu Regional Medical Center, in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Nick and Lucille came here on January 22 to visit us and to conduct a rehearsal of the Big Top Brass-Arizona, a group that Nick and I organized 3 or 4 years ago, that evening. They came early to stop at the ER and get a prescription for what we all thought was a bad cold. The hospital diagnosed him with pneumonia and a recent heart attack. They admitted him to the hospital. Nick called me and asked me to run the rehearsal that evening, and assured me that he would be out of the hospital and conduct our concert on Sunday, January 26. That never happened. 12 hours later Nick couldnt breath and was transferred to intensive care. He was put into a deep sleep with heavy sedation medicine, and never woke up or recovered. He also suffered another heart attack on Thursday, Jan. 30. While we all share a feeling of great loss, we also all share the blessings of many great experiences and memories, and the wonderful friendship that Nick extended to us and thousands more. We can be thankful that Nick died peacefully, without pain, and with Lucille and their daughters, Gina and Camille, at his side. I want to believe that God took Nick to write beautiful music and organize a Big Top Brass Band in Heaven. A funeral for Nick will be on Friday, February 14, 2014 (Valentines Day), at St. Pauls Catholic Church, in Genesee Depot, Wisconsin. The wake will be from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm, with the Funeral Mass beginning at 1:00 pm. Lucille is planning to have a notice in several Waukesha County newspapers beginning on Tuesday, February 4. Lucille and her daughters left this afternoon to drive to Los Angeles, CA. Camille lives there. Gina will get a flight to St Louis, MO, and Lucille a flight to Wisconsin. Please share or forward this email to everyone you know that knew and loved Nick, who is not on the list above. You may contact me at [email protected] or at 928-680-0743. Doug Los
