Sadly I attended the funeral of a young man I had the pleasure of working with. I have spent the rest of today reflecting on those six years, full of good times and yes some challenging ones. In addition to getting to know a young man who was lovable, fun-loving with his own sense of humour my memories are of staff members that worked so hard with such dedication to improve his life. He brought many of us together resulting in friendships and long term relationships. I would like to personally thank you all for making those six years a very enjoyable time in my career. I would like to leave you with a poem that was read out today at his funeral.... Your eyes told us all, Your sounds told us more; Autism was a part of you And you gave us a lot to adore. Some crisps and some juice, For you were the best, The cheeky smile you gave When you wanted to eat the rest. Bouncing on your ball, Then a run in the car Where all the fun things to do, As long as we didnt go to far. Being at home, You liked this best; A Friday night take away And a little elbow test. Not forgetting your room, A place to relax, Your bubble tube, light and music, You wishing for bed time to come soon. The people you cared for most, We knew as clear as day; We all have a little something We hope you can hear us say. We want to tell you something So that there is no doubt, Youre so wonderful to think of, So hard to live without. (Written by a staff member who worked with him recently) You will be sadly missed, With all our love House 18
