Sadly OROP has become a distasteful power fight between ex-Servicemen who owe political loyalty to either the Congress or the BJP. ********************************************************************************************** TRUE FEELINGS OF MOST OF US THE VETERANS..YOUR TAKE NOW...??? RGDS..SHARAN ***************************************************************************** The facts are a)The NDA did reject the OROP demand when the BJP led Govt was in power! b)Its the Govt of India who sanctions or rejects OROP, not Congress or BJP. c) Why should it make a difference which Govt gave the OROP?Lets rejoice having got it! d)We can dispute definitely the path adopted to get OROP. The trade union type activity that saw the OROP agitation take a turn, had a section of the Veterans against it!That can be accommodated within the mold of differences in approach. e) The BJP has used the OROP issue while out of Govt to create vote bank politicking among Veterans! BJP having supported the OROP cannot now claim it is a burden they have to bear if they come to power! because when as a main political party backs a proposal , the political party must have taken into account the cost to the exchequer, and later trying to make allegations is unbecoming and irresponsible politics! The excuse being trundled by pro-BJP Veterans that it was all done only when sure of losing the elections is quite a silly posture. Till the results come out, irrespective of the stance taken on each group claiming victory, the election is not over yet! Being apolitical, reducing ex-Servicemens issues into a the BJP vs Congress connundrum is extremely unfortunate! Let us congratulate all ppl involved with getting the OROP incl political parties who supported it, though we may disagree between ourselves on the methodology. All I know that I was getting a pension of approx Rs 11,000 in 2004 and now I get close to Rs 46,000.With OROP I would hopefully be getting more. Its the Govt of India who are in chair now,who gave me that! I am not in the habit of doing silly and irrelevant nitpicking and politicising an issue which is purely a service issue! I appeal to all veterans to kill the unseemingly and ungracious debate on OROP and avoid open cleavage between groups! We need to rise above partisan politics in issues of welfare, pay and perks and conditions of service! Regards Commodore Z. Mathews(retd)
