Sadly, this is the best commentary Ive heard on last nights elections: Republicans have control of the Senate (or at least they will at the beginning of the year). What will Republican control of the Senate, and therefore total control of the Congress, mean? As someone who has studied the actions of the Republican Party for over 20 years—including the legislation they have passed or helped to pass, the bills they have introduced that did not pass, the speeches Republicans have made, the Party Platforms they have adopted, and the budgets they have proposed—I can say without hesitation that it will mean absolutely nothing. They will continue to spend, spend, spend, bomb, bomb, bomb, tax, tax, tax, and regulate, regulate, regulate. Watch them for the next two years and try to prove me wrong. I will be watching them like a hawk. - Laurence Vance. The truth of the matter is this: Hardly any Republicans elected last night believe in limited government, limited taxes, limited regulation, free markets, free enterprise, innovation, or individual and economic freedom. At best, most of the Republicans elected last night agree with Democrats 90% of the time on 90% of the issues. It is only during campaign season that they pay lip service to Conservatives. Skeptical about this claim? If youre reading this theres a good chance your next Congressman is Mike Bishop. A Republican from Rochester Hills who, while representing us in Lansing, voted with Democrats 89% of the time on tax, spending, and budget related matters and 92% of the time on regulatory matters. And was personally responsible for drafting and passing the worst tax in Michigan history. Make no mistake about it, history has been crystal clear on this one point: Absent a remarkable push back from the likes of Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, and Mike Lee, our new Republican Senate will absolutely spend more, tax more, regulate more, and restrict more freedoms. Last night they were all proud Conservatives. Today, and every day until the next election, they will governor like Democrats. I hope Im wrong, but if history is any guide, you can take every word of this to the bank.
