Safe Room Rebates closed. METRO SAFE ROOM REBATE PROGRAM APPLICATION Due to the high volume of applications received, the North Central Texas Council of Governments has closed the online application portal for the Metro Safe Room Rebate Program (MSRRP), nctsaferoom . The application portal was fully operational at 1:15am June 5, 2013 and was closed at 5:30am after the application portal received 825 applicants for the 400 spots reserved. The 400 spots were equally distributed among Collin, Dallas, Denton, and Tarrant County, each receiving 100 spots in the program. The North Central Texas Council of Governments will now assess all submitted applications to remove duplicates and ineligible applicants. In two week the North Central Texas Council of Governments will open the application portal again to begin to allow applicants to join a waitlist for the program. The waitlist will be an important tool in assessing the demand for the program when the North Central Texas Council of Governments applies for additional federal funding. Once the Metro Safe Room Rebate Program has received additional federal funding the North Central Texas Council of Governments will begin to notify applicants on the waitlist of their acceptance to the program on a first come first serve basis. The North Central Texas Council of Governments has learned a lot through this initial application phase and will work to implement solutions from lessons learned to make the application process better for the next time. The North Central Texas Council of Governments is very encouraged by the strong interest by residents in the Metro Safe Room Rebate Program and look forward to assisting more residents of North Central Texas in installing safe rooms once additional funding becomes available.
