Saloon bar in the Hollywood Hotel, corner of Hunt and Foster Streets, Surry Hills, Sydney Date created: After 1940 Description: View of metal stools in front of a curved linoleum-topped bar edged with corrugated chrome and faced with marbled and plain tiles. The floor appears to be of different coloured cement aggregate in a checkerboard pattern. The room has veneered wall panels and counter cupboards, mirror-backed shelves, streamlined cornices and is lit by hanging ceiling lights. Other details include a metal and milky glass trim along the top of the bar, ventilation openings, vases of flowers and a liquor price list on the wall. Originally known as the Navada, the hotels name was changed to Hollywood in October 1941. The Hollywood Hotel was owned by the Perpetual Trustee Co. Ltd., but was tied to buy Tooth & Company beer according to the terms of a Head Lease.
