Samantha Bryan is a crafts person and from what she does, she creates dreams in the mind of many others. Inspired by Victorian Gadgetry and Invention Samantha Bryan creates suspended, wall mounted and free standing sculptures out of a combination of wire, leather, found objects & collected materials. These unusual sculptures depict everyday life in ‘fairyland’. Her creations/inventions will spark neurons in any viewers head with imaginative stories. One of the highpoints of visiting London is to browse through the various crafts fair they have. Crafts, in Europe, is a contemporary pursuit as against a tradition. In that, they are studied, deconstructed, reconstructed, renewed, reformed. They find new avenues in old trades. One can do a BA or a BFA in design crafts there. They provide courses to explore contemporary approaches to designing and making across a range of two and three-dimensional media in the fields of textiles, jewellery and ceramics and glass. Despite the rich tradition of crafts we have in India, there is little structured effort to unleash the creative potential in a new contemporary manner.
