Sandys Story-Update On October 31, 2014, Sandy and I loaded up - TopicsExpress

Sandys Story-Update On October 31, 2014, Sandy and I loaded up (we still have to go through the ritual of going in to the bathroom to apply the essential oils, put on the Thunder Shirt, the harness and leash) in the car and drove to the Animal Rehabilitation and Wellness Center in Castle Pines. We met Deb Nabb, The Mutt Master, there and proceeded into the rehab/pool area door where customers dont typically enter from outside to give Sandy a little more of a quiet entry. Sandy was quite anxious at all the people around the parking lot and when we entered into the rehab door and the rehab therapist was there waiting for her, she became overwhelmed with anxiety and reverted to pooping everywhere. While we cleaned it up, Sandy was allowed to decompress in the corner of her choice. Once she was calmed down, we entered the pool area and walked around the pool multiple times to get her comfortable with her surroundings. I then took off her harness and put on her life vest and we continued to walk around with Maria, the pool rehab therapist. After a bit, I led Sandy onto the pool stairs while Maria entered the pool and met her on the lower step. Sandy allowed Maria to bring her the rest of the way into the water and low and behold, she swam! I walked in front of her on the curb of the pool and she was led around the pool for many laps by Maria. She really seemed to enjoy the water and eventually seemed to trust Maria as well. Deb video taped the process, which Im posting with this post as well as several posts to follow (I can only post one video at a time). We scheduled another swim session on November 14th and Im excited to see her reaction when we arrive this time! While at home, Sandy continues to interact with me and even Mike, more and more each day. She licks me and snuggles with me quite often now and I love it!
