Sarah Vaughns version of Marvin Gayes classic Inner City Blues. The sign of a great song is when anybody can sing it in any style and it still sounds great! I began studying The Divine One at music college and continue to be in awe of her. She was someone I wished I had been able to witness live, at least once. Early on, due to logistics, I had to accept that I would likely only ever have the privilege of listening to her recordings, which, thankfully, are gems! A classmate who kept in touch once I moved to London, realised during a conversation, that I hadnt heard the news of Sarah Vaughns passing so instead of telling me over the phone and figuring that with my schedule and environment at the time, (pop world stuff), it might be a while before I learned of her transition, so, she thoughtfully sent a clipping in the post to me, as she rightly guessed, I would need a visual reference to process the reality. That clipping is still on my wall, 20 years later. Some people have that impact on you, even without ever meeting them, they speak to you through their gift so much so that you feel a personal loss once their physical journey on earth has ended. Blessedly, the sound of her voice lives on. https://m.youtube/watch?v=R0hQ2vuUiFc
