Sarina Phu, an International Baccalaureate student at Standley - TopicsExpress

Sarina Phu, an International Baccalaureate student at Standley Lake High, spoke at a press conference before the Jeffco Public Schools board meeting last Thursday. She thanked all the passionate people who care about my education, but said the school board majority had a lack of understanding of the very foundation of this country in proposing a review of the AP U.S. History curriculum. “In addition to the triumph of the American Revolution and the foundation of this country, Native American genocide, slavery, Japanese internment camps, and the systematic oppression and marginalization of people of color, women and the impoverished are all essential to the understanding of this countrys history, Sarina said. “How dare you say that the histories and experiences of people of color, of women, and of the poor are not important enough for your ideal U.S. History curriculum. How dare you deny the very students you claim to represent and support access to their histories. Would you like to sweep us under the rug too, just as you hope to sweep our histories?” Way to #standup4kids Sarina - you are #MoreThanAScoreCO.
