Sassy the feral cat update (feral cats are tamed and trained in a home environment in my big attic room!): Sassy had two more kittens last night. It was very stressful because I was woken up at 3.30am by constant kitten meowing. Sounded very hungry and wasnt right so I searched and mum had left the kitten in between the sofa and the cupboard on the hard floor (despite the fact I had several birthing areas very suitable for her in place). She wasnt going to be able to access the kitten there nor would the kitten be able to move to her so I set up a whole new area right next to it and moved the kitten there (after warming it up and drying it off as it was very cold and wet). Then I realised mum was wandering around, not sure what to do or where to go and dragging a second kitten behind her, still attached to the umbilical cord! She jumped up onto the sofa and dropped this kitten in the same spot as the first and left again. This second one was a stillborn. Shooed her into the new area I set up and she has stayed there all night nursing the first kitten properly. Thank goodness for that! She is still very big so there may be more but sadly thats two kittens that have died: one stillborn and one premature labour as soon as she arrived. The one kitten left is healthy and content with mum. She is staying put and seems happy in the area I have made for her.
