Saturday 22/11/14 training Todays training was more of a strength focused session. 1) Jerk from rack 3/3 3/2. 2) back squats 2/3 2/2 2/1 3) rows 4/10 4) stretching and jumps !! This session went well. Which is surprising because the only food I had consumed was breakfeast, which was about 6/7 hours before hand, not ideal. But anyways I was feeling energised and ready to attack this training session. After a general warm, which for me Consists of stretching out my abductors ( they are always tight ) banded shoulder dislocations and squats, presses and good mornings with a barbell. I then move on to a more specific warm up where I work on a particular weakness with light weights, this can be anything that I felt was not right during a previous session, yesterday I did snatch with 3rd pull emphasis, using only 40kg focused on speed and aggressive lockout. Now Im warm and ready. Jerk first, I hate the jerk its by far my worst lift, its getting better just not as quickly as Id like more work must be done. I choose to power jerk, for me it just seems to be easier. No faffing around recovering from the split, just dip, drive and get under the bar ASAP, stand done. I worked up to 100kg this is not a pb, I have done this weight before but today it felt smoother, faster and more powerful so Im happy with the progress. Next back squats, nothing exceptional 130kg for two singles. I stood up surprisingly quickly with these. Squat tip: squats require confidence and self belief, remove all self doubt. One thing I have noticed is when the barbell feels heavy on your back you begin talking yourself out the lift. The reason the barbell feels heavy is because your upper back is weak not your legs, Strengthen your upper back and the bar will feel lighter simple. Then jumps for explosive power. Heres a couple pictures from the session.
